The Healthy Start Study

We are a longitudinal research study at the Lifecourse Epidemiology of Adiposity & Diabetes (LEAD) Center that began in 2009 at the Colorado School of Public Health on the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. Through ongoing data collection from mothers and their children, we are studying the metabolic and behavioral factors during pregnancy and early life that contribute to the development of obesity and related health problems.

Our Mission

The overall goal of the study is to understand the contribution of metabolic and behavioral factors during pregnancy to the development of obesity, insulin resistance, and inflammatory markers in newborns and infants.

Beautiful group of concerned people that worked with my schedule and I felt privileged to be part of their study!
Thanks for being so great with [my child] when he came in! He still talks about the Ally’s and how nice they were.
The reason I agreed to being part of the study is so that other children may be helped by what is learned through the studies that are done. Every child deserves a healthy start in life.
I enjoyed participating in the Healthy Start Study! I’m happy you got more funding!
