Healthy Start Teens: What To Expect

Why? The purpose of the Healthy Start 4 study is to learn more about the things that may affect your child's growth and development, and potential risk for diabetes later in life. We are particularly interested in how changes during puberty may influence weight, fat distribution, and glucose (sugar) levels.

Where? Anschutz Health Sciences Building, 1890 N Revere Ct., Aurora, CO 80045

When?  Healthy Start 4 is open for appointments Sunday-Friday starting between 8:00 AM – 9:30 AM.

How do I schedule? Call or text us at 720-957-5317, or email us at hs.teens@cuanschutz.edu.

The Visit: Plan for about 3.5 hours to complete your visit. Components include a fasting blood draw, Oral Glucose Tolerance Test, questionnaires, measurements, and a body composition (BOD POD) test.

Please bring a fitted swimsuit or tight fitted clothing (e.g., shorts/pants, sports bra, etc.) for your child to change into for the BOD POD measurement (please no ruffles, metal, or padding). Come fasted (no food or drinks other than water/medications for 8 hours). We will provide you with snacks and a gift card to Subway near our clinic for after your visit. Please feel free to bring your own snacks for after the OGT test.
